A DIY interface allows exhibition visitors to engage in a search for traces. In order to send and receive signals, they can scan the immediate airscape of the installation with an ultrasound device. In this way, narrative fragments and sound snippets are received, suggesting other forms of urban coexistence and different approaches to technology.

The scenario is an alternative to commercial ideas of automated »smart cities.« Instead, it evokes the impression of a different urban space, shaped by open networks, decentralized communication, and open-source principles. The future designs of such »breathing cities« are characterized by a biologization of technology. An interplay of organic and technical materials thus informs the aesthetics of the work: wool felt, latex, soapstone, membrane pumps, and LCD screens.
