We are breathing beings. How can we tune in to the vital experience that makes air flow through our bodies? The act of breathing usually does not require any thought. Yet our emotions and memories have a strong impact on our respiratory system – and vice versa.

(porously) anchored in the peripheries of time draws on Monika Dorniak’s interdisciplinary background in performance, psychology, and biochemical practice-based research. Taking the form of an ambient sound score, it invites the listener to embark on a micro air journey between the inside and outside of the human anatomy as a means of contemplating the porosity of the skin and hence the plurality of the self.

The score was developed in collaboration with sound artist Monty Callaghan and is dedicated to the alliance of humans and more-than-human agencies. A first version of the work was practiced collectively during the CollActive Materials co-design workshop »Breathing In, Breathing Out. Practices of Air« in the spring of 2023.
